Bad Driver Insurance: Factors Affecting Driver Rating

Before you head off to your interview with the car or driver insurance company, check out these tips on how to get settled at a premium that’s more favorable to you.  Some of these factors, you can still modify, but others like driving record and credit history, are things that you no longer have control over.  So we hope you’ve kept them a bit impressive or at least clean.

So what are the factors that affect driver rating?  There is quite a number but we will name here a valuable few:

Driving record – If you had once been involved in a car accident and you happened to be the one at fault, you are most likely to end up buying a bad driver insurance.  However, if you were not the one at fault, this doesn’t promise you a good deal either.  Car accidents simply give the impression that the drivers involved, whether or not at fault, are reckless.

Credit History – If you have been paying your other bills on time, you have a high chance of getting a good rate on your car insurance premiums.   The rationale behind this is that if you are responsible with your bills, you might be a responsible driver with good driving habits, too.

Continuous Coverage – Make sure you don’t have any lapses in your vehicle insurance coverage over the years. This further proves your insurability and goes to show that you have been driving with at least the minimum level of coverage mandated by the laws of your state.

Personal Profile – Although you cannot do something about your age and gender and these are also factors in a way that young men pay more for their coverage than young women, you can do something about your residence.  Living in an area that has a high incidence of vehicle thefts, or putting a lot of mileage on your vehicle each year, mean higher insurance costs.  Expensive cars that are hard to repair and that attract a lot of thieves mean the same thing.  But good news for rural dwellers, because you may be charged less than those who live in the city.
