As the cost of health care continues to increase, the number of Americans who have no health insurance coverage rise as well. So if you are unemployed, in between jobs, or simply cannot afford to get individual or family health insurance, here’s a list of options available to you.
Medicaid
Generally, Medicaid provides health care support for low-income families, children, seniors and the disabled. This plan covers doctor and hospital services, lab and x-ray charges, family planning, hearing aids, eyeglasses, chiropractic, maternity and prescriptions, among other medical services.
To be eligible to receive Medicaid, you must be a US citizen and meet particular income requirements. If your salary is not sufficient to pay for affordable health insurance, you and your family may possibly qualify.
Medicare
This health insurance program is the largest in the Country. It provides coverage for seniors age 65 and over, disabled persons under 65 and persons with permanent kidney failure.
To be eligible for Medicare, you must be a US citizen over the age of 65 and entitled for Social Security benefits. If you are not yet 65, you may still qualify if you have received Social Security disability at least two years or if you suffer from end-stage renal failure.
Children’s Health Insurance Conception (CHIP)
CHIP is a site health insurance program specially designed to provide health care coverage for children of working families. CHIP benefits covers a whole range of medical services, including preventive care, prescription drugs, lab tests and X-rays, among other medical services. This plan will provide for children under the age of 19 who have no health insurance coverage.
Take note that these program benefits and income requirements vary from one state to another, so make sure you check with your local Insurance Department.
